Deck the Halls

Deck the Halls.  Performance and Explanation. Right and Left hand. Chords and Melody too.

A traditional Christmas, yuletide, and New Years' carol. The melody is Welsh dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, "Nos Galan", while the English lyrics date to 1862.  This is a Christmas carol that's expresses the joy of Christmas and is just fun to sing and play. It has no great philosophical message. Musically it it has the structure AABA, which means it has some nice repetition in it melodically.
It stays pretty much in the first 3 frets except for a little trip up the fingerboard in the B section.

A Left Hand perspective on Deck the Halls

The song is structured AABA musically which means the melody repeats eveywhere there's an A. The B part has a nice chord progression up the neck up to an Am on the fifth fret with your pinky on the 8th fret. A nice dexterity exercise.

Chords and Melody Deck the Halls. Medium

There are two lessons on this video.  We want you to listen to and then play a "Melody only", phrase by phrase, version of the song, so you hear the beauty of the melody.  Then, similarly we want you to listen to and then play through a "Chords only" version where you can strum the strings, or in the spirit of fingerstyle traditions, begin to use your right hand thumb and fingers to play block chords.  Good exercises for any player.…’specially the listening part.
