My Country Tis of Thee

At one time this song was the national anthem of the United States. In Great Britain it is known as God Save the Queen. Truly an international anthem. It is played in the key of C, and is a relatively simple melody with a corresponding chord structure. There is an alternate ending included which I think I heard during a medal ceremony in the summer Olympics a few years ago

Chords and Melody music

There are two lessons on this video. We want you to listen to and then play a "Melody only", phrase by phrase, version of the song, so you hear the beauty of the melody. Then, similarly we want you to listen to and then play through a "Chords only" version where you can strum the strings, or in the spirit of fingerstyle traditions, begin to use your right hand thumb and fingers to play block chords. Good exercises for any player.…’specially the listening part.
