God of Our Fathers
The national hymn of the United States. Perhaps one of the more difficult arrangements on the website. This arrangement is in the key of C, and has some triplet organ/trumpet flourishes which we imitate with a C chord and some fancy strums. It also has a couple of challenging phrases which will get both your picking and chording hand in shape.
Video 1: God of Our Fathers. Introduction, Performance and Explanation. Right and Left hand. No Chords and melody.
Video 2: A left hand perspective on God of Our Fathers.
This arrangement has several left hand moves which will get and keep your attention. Your left palm will probably be warm when you're done.
No Chords and Melody version. I believe many national anthems and historic hymns are not appropriate for simplification musically, where they lose the power of their melodies and chords, and the amazing emotional power of their performance. See them as a goal to be reached as you increase your playing skills. Then play them carefully.
