Of the Father's Love Begotten
A Christmas carol based on the Latin poem Corde natus by the Roman poet Aurelius Prudentius. The ancient poem was translated and paired with a medieval melody called Divinum Mysterium, an ancient chanting melody which appears in manuscript form as early as the 10th century. Divinum Mysterium first appears in print in 1582 in a Finnish song book, where it was used in saying Mass. One of two translations commonly sung today was made by John Mason Neale. Neale's original translation was printed in his "Hymnal Noted" in 1851, in London. You will immediately hear and feel the chant. It feels like you are speaking it as you play it. A really nice change of pace for Christmas and a truly ancient carol.
